iO THEATER OUTREACH

iO's Improvisational Workshops teach the basic concepts of improvisation through active participation. Their workshops last about 3 hours and will leave attendees will new skills and techniques that only true improv masters exhibit.

Upon completing iO's Workshops, members will have developed deeper listening skills, an understanding that listening is about more than just what is being said, learned to create a collaborative environment for problem solving and completing tasks, trust their own instincts to think and speak spontaneously while understanding others and most importantly, have fun while learning new skills!

Whirled News Tonight :: Equal parts political satire, news parody and social commentary, Whirled News Tonight is improvisation for the Wall Street Journal set. In Whirled News Tonight, audience members provide the inspiration for an evening of improvised comedy by clipping articles from local and national newspapers and periodicals. From these journalistic suggestions, iO’s team of experienced improvisers creates a fast-paced, topical, intelligent and above all, hilarious show. With an interactive pre-show, minimal technical requirements and easily relatable material, this show is a great fit for any venue and is sure to spark debate and tickle the funny bone with any audience.

The Improvised Musical :: Featuring all the elements of a big time Broadway musical, including huge group numbers, larger than life characters, tight harmonies and dynamic choreography, The Improvised Musical has it all and more because it is completely improvised! This unique experience allows the audience to help create the musical as they go by simply giving the actors a topic and watching them create the plot, music and lyrics instantly. This side-splitting production provides a lively musical experience that is completely original for every show!

Dominizuelan: "People in the City" :: Two colorful Latina women take on 20 different characters, from old men playing dominoes to 20-something ladies in line at the bar. This 90-minute show gives audiences a hysterical look at stereotypes through slice-of-life scenes.
